Mark Lugo of Fitzgerald, Georgia, wasn't going to let the loss of his job in January keep him down. He has begun to forge a new career building small sawmills and sawmill accessories with a little help from his ESAB Migmaster 250 welder.
The mill shown here can accommodate a 32-inch log, cut 28 inches wide and 17-foot long. It can be tailored to cut logs as long as 40 feet or longer by adding more track. Powered by an 11 HP engine, the mill features power up and down head with a manual push-through on the saw head. The machine is shown cutting pecan, which is one of the harder woods to cut. Mark says that his sawmill can cut 1000 board feet of lumber per day and is ideal for cutting wood for cabinetry and furniture. The machine is portable and can be easily transported to various locations for small milling jobs. The mill is also available in smaller sizes. In addition to designing and building small sawmills, Mark builds accessories for all types of sawmills and takes on other small welding and fabricating jobs at his newly formed company, HiMark Manufacturing.
Mark purchased his Migmaster 250 after using a friend's machine and being impressed with the weld and arc quality. "I love this machine, he says. I haven't found a smoother welder in this class that can get the job done. If I have my way, the rest of my shop will be yellow." Mark hopes to add an ESAB plasma cutter and Tig welder to his shop capabilities in the near future.
